Norman “Cecil” Thomas, 38, of Route 1, Aberdeen, North Carolina died December 2, 1976 at Moore Memorial Hospital in Pinehurst, North Carolina at a short illness. Funeral services were held on Friday, December 3, 1976 at Taylor Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Albert Evans and Rev. Bruce Goodwin officiating. Rev. Goodwin sang two of Cecil’s favorite songs, “Tears Are A Language” and “How Great Thou Art” with Matt Thompkins at the piano. Cecil served four years in the U.S. Air Force. Most of that time with the 579th Strategic Missile Squadron at Walker Air Force Base in Roswell, New Mexico. After his tour of duty with the Air Force, he returned home and was employed with Southwestern Insurance Company and the North Carolina Department of Correction. He resigned from the North Carolina Department of Correction in July of 1976 to spend more time with his family and return to the family farm. While in High School at Aberdeen, North Carolina he was honored as a “Carolina Farmer”. Surviving are his wife, Janice Shaver Thomas; one son, Norman Cecil Thomas Jr.; one daughter, Debra Kay Thomas, both of the home; his father, Roy Thomas and his wife Marie of Jackson Springs, North Carolina; his mother, Mrs. D.A. Lindig of Tampa, Florida, his foster parents, Mr. & Mrs. A.R. Cook of Aberdeen, North Carolina and four sisters, Mrs. Carol Ashe of Franklin, Tennessee; Mrs. Eddie Chandler of Kernersville, North Carolina; Mrs. Rick Rhyne of Aberdeen, North Carolina; and Miss Tammy Thomas, of Jackson Springs, North Carolina.
